Roger Vandevender

Roger Vandevender, 82, a resident of Kerens, West Virginia, and Debary, Florida, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2025, at the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center.

He was born Oct. 22, 1942, at Elkins, a son of the late Allen and Nina Rexroad Vandevender.

On Jan. 25, 1964, at Oakland, Maryland, he married Alice Gray Cooper, who survives. Also surviving are brothers, Ralph E. Vandevender of Kerens, Richard Vandevender (Merrill) of Kerens and A. Wayne Vandevender of Montrose; sister, Diane Coberly (David) of Montrose; and sister-in-law, Pat Teter of Bruceton Mills, West Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two nephews, Craig E. Vandevender and Jerry R. Teter Jr.

Roger was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1961 and a veteran of the United States Army.

He was a farmer and a bus driver with the Randolph County Schools prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Israel Methodist Church at Kerens.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kevin Gainer officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman where Presentation of the American Flag will be made by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program.
