Mamma Mia’ a gift to the community

The gift of the “Mamma Mia” production that the Old Brick Playhouse Executive Director Missy McCollam, staff and community participants brought to the Rotary Amphitheater was a great joy. Ms. McCollam’s opening remarks hit spot-on when she said we were privileged to sit under the blue sky and, later, the evening stars to join in the fun and revelry of this production. Justice’s support for Trump questioned

I found out our governor is referring to holding accountable the mob who invaded our nation’s capitol, maiming and killing as they went, as “political theatre.” Then he characterized Trump as “on point,” twice-impeached Trump who “did a heck of a job,” according to Justice. Many historians believe he will go down in history as the worst president in U.S. history. Reader: American dream isn’t dead

Robert Ware says the American Dream is dead. Let us reject pessimism and embrace optimism. Every civilization changes over time. Every civilization has progress and setbacks. Robert Ware says people who study hard and work hard can’t get ahead any more. Where’s his proof? He must be a Republican, making up his own alternative “facts.” We do have limits: unpolluted air, potable water, arable land. Is the American Dream dead. Does it even matter? Have you ever wondered what the American dream is? To me it includes owning your own house, starting a family, having a stable job or owning your own business. Like many of my generation, I grew up believing the American dream. I studied hard, got good grades, and participated in extracurricular activities, and I had access to a high-quality college education. Randolph must keep youth in the county

I am writing in to express an opinion as to why we cannot get our young people to stay in Randolph County and what we could do about it. First, start in Beverly. You finally have two restaurants, Betty’s Boots and Diner and Mi Fiesta, which is a start. This is to be visited by tourists, but what are they to do once they visit the one or two locations in the town? The road to Rich Mountain Battlefield is not paved, there is no lodging to speak of in the town. Fossil fuels, solar panels and the Ukraine

If our government actually wanted to get away from fossil fuels it would have spent the $54 billion that we have given away to the Ukraine on solar panels. That amount would put 1.7 million American homes off our electrical grid altogether. If they wanted to “save” the planet it is within their reach. They just don’t want to, evidently.
