Dave Kubichek, sales and office manager with MegaCorp Logistics, recently addressed the Rotary Club of Elkins to share insights about the company’s growth, operations, and future plans.
Founded in 2009 by Ryan and Denise Legg, MegaCorp Logistics has grown into a leading third-party logistics provider with offices in Elkins, Morgantown, Wilmington, North Carolina, Cincinnati, Ohio, Covington, Kentucky, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jacksonville, Florida.
The Elkins office, located in the historic Montgomery Ward building on Third Street, currently employs 41 sales professionals, with space to add approximately 57 more. Most positions are commission-based, and Kubichek acknowledged that recruiting qualified candidates for a career in sales remains a key challenge. “When we call on Fortune 500 companies, we start as just a name and a phone number, and we have to earn their trust to move billions of dollars’ worth of goods each year,” he explained.
Kubichek noted that there are plans to expand the Elkins office with additional sales, and sales support staff, along with potentially adding a night dispatch team, which could make the location a 24/7 operation. “We are always looking for avenues for adding jobs to the area,” he added.
To prepare new hires for success, MegaCorp offers a comprehensive six-month training program. Trainees shadow experienced brokers to learn operations and sales before transitioning to build their own book of business. According to Kubichek, most begin to see their efforts pay off within six months of working independently.
MegaCorp provides a wide range of transportation solutions, including full truckload services (FTL), less-than-truckload (LTL), ocean freight, international and air shipping. The company partners with 15,000-20,000 carriers, ensuring reliable delivery across all conditions. Currently, MegaCorp brokers approximately 7,000 truckloads per week–totaling around $3 million in business.
While many competitors have seen revenue declines of 10-15% over the past three years, MegaCorp has continued to grow. “We’ve embraced change by expanding into ocean and rail freight, as well as broadening the range of our LTL services and the commodities we ship,” Kubichek said.
A key element of MegaCorp’s business model is handling critical functions in-house, including accounting, legal, software development and carrier services to better support customers and maintain operational efficiency.
Kubichek also highlighted plans to enhance the Elkins office environment. The company intends to convert a recently purchased 1,462-square-foot grassy lot into a green space for employees. “We’re very proud of our building and downtown, for the last few years, has been all gas and no brakes. It’s good be a part of the future,” concluded Kubichek.
