Community Calendar

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Inter-Mountain’s Community Calendar is reserved for nonprofit, civic organizations. Unless otherwise noted, events listed should be considered free and open to the public. Entries appear in chronological order and as space allows.

REVIVAL: Flanagan Hill Church at Red Creek will be holding a revival today at 7 p.m. Pastor Jimmy Harr will be bringing the message. Special singing each night. Everyone is invited to attend.

TRUNK-OR-TREAT: Harrison Community Church, at 1868 Cassity Road, Mabie, is sponsoring a trunk or treat today from 5 to 7 p.m. The evening will be filled with crafts, refreshments, and fellowship. Everyone is welcome to attend and join the fun!

HALLOWEEN CAKEWALK: The Talbott Community Building will host a Halloween Cakewalk today. The kitchen opens at 5 p.m. and the cakewalk will start at 7 p.m.

VINTAGE MOVIE NIGHT: The Elkins High School International Thespian Society presents a vintage movie night showing “Little Shop of Horrors” today. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at 6 p.m,

FARMERS MARKET: The Elkins Farmers Market, located behind the Railroad Depot, is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Lots of parking is available behind the Summit Church buildings. We have a large variety of vegetables of the season, eggs, cakes, cookies, jams, breads, flowers, crafts and more.

COMMUNITY TRUNK OR TREAT: Multiple churches in the community, including One Hope Covenant, Refinery, Elkins First Baptist, Elkins First United Methodist, and Elkins First Church of the Nazarene, are partnering together to host a community trunk or treat. The event will be held at the Phil Gainer Community Center in Elkins on Sunday, Oct. 26, from 2-4 p.m. Please bring a canned food or humane society item for entry. Join us for a fun filled afternoon! CEMETERY MEETING: Greenwood Cemetery Meeting will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26 at the Presbyterian Church in East Dailey. All relatives of those interred in the cemetery are asked to attend.

WEDNESDAY PICKIN’: The Augusta Heritage Center’s weekly acoustic music jam sessions are now taking place at Armadillo Flats at C.J. Maggie’s Restaurant on Davis Avenue in Elkins throughout the fall and winter months. The country music jam sessions will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., while the old-time music jam sessions will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All levels and instruments are welcome as well as singers and listeners. FREE KIDS EVENT: A free Spooktacular Evening for kids will be Friday, Oct. 31 from 5-9 p.m. at Magnolia Hall at Scott Hall. The event will feature activities for the kids, hay rides, a bonfire and candy. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in costumes.

ADULT SPOOKTACULAR EVENING: will be Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at Magnolia Hall at Scott Hall. The event will include appetizers and drinks, along with haunted rooms, the “headless horseman”, a candlelight tour and music for dancing by Michael Bonnett and Rivers Edge. Participants are encouraged to come dressed in costumes, with judging for a prize. There will be a cost for admission. All proceeds go to the Kids Free Halloween Spooktacular.

HISTORY ALIVE PROGRAM: Historical re-enactor Karen Vuranch will portray Pulitzer Prize winning author and social activist Pearl S. Buck during a program and luncheon scheduled for Nov. 1 at the Halliehurst Mansion on the campus of Davis & Elkins College. The event is being presented by GFWC Elkins Woman’s Club and the History Alive Program from the West Virginia Humanities Council. Tickets for the lunch are available at the Elkins Sewing Center or by calling 304-516-3993.

CRAFT SALE, BAKE SALE, SPAGHETTI DINNER: The craft sale and bake sale will begin at 9 a.m. on Nov. 1 at Elkins Church of the Brethren at 708 West Central Street. The spaghetti dinner (dine-in or carry-out) will begin at 11 a.m. Meals will include spaghetti, meat balls, salad, bread, dessert and a drink. Proceeds will benefit the Church Building Fund’s Roof Project.

BVFD LADIES AUXILIARY FUNDRAISER: On Saturday, Nov. 1, there will be a craft show along with a breakfast of biscuits and gravy, and lunch with homemade vegetable soup and hotdogs with homemade chili from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Beverly Fire Hall. This fundraiser is sponsored by the BVFD Ladies Auxiliary and supports the Angel Tree project, local food pantries and various other charities.

OLD TIME MUSIC: Join in the first and third Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins for an Old Time Music Session. Beginning musicians are encouraged to join in. Fiddle, Mandolin, Guitar, Banjo, Dulcimer, Bass are welcome. Participants enter through the back door. Contact dp-foot@hotmail.com.

COUNTRY STORE SALE: The Elkins First United Methodist Church United Women in Faith will host a country store sale on Friday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon and Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon. Name your own price, no reasonable offer refused.
