THANKSGIVING BASKETS: The local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans Association is currently distributing applications for Thanksgiving Baskets in Randolph County. Applications can be picked up at Peter Pan Cleaners and Miller’s Modification Station, and must be submitted by Nov. 20

WEDNESDAY PICKIN’: at Armadillo Flats will not take place this week in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Wednesday Pickin’ will resume on Dec. 3 at Armadillo Flats in Elkins.

FREE THANKSGIVING MEALS: will be available on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27, at First United Methodist Church in Elkins from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is free and open to all. For more information, call the Rev. Doug Lewis at 304-704-9433, or FUMC at 304-636-0660.

FREE DINNER: There will be a free Thanksgiving dinner at Parsons Senior Center on Thursday, Nov. 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eat in, pick up and delivery available. Everyone is welcome. For additional information please contact, Carroll Precht at 304 478-4018.

CHRISTMAS BASKETS: American Legion Post 29 will be accepting applications for Christmas dinner baskets, for Randolph County residents only, on the following dates/times: Monday, Dec. 1-Friday, Dec. 5, between the hours of 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Proof of your physical residency, ID, and all forms of income you receive is required. Applications must be filled out in the office and cannot leave the building. Applications do NOT guarantee you will be chosen to receive a dinner. Baskets will be given out Dec. 13 from 8 a.m. – Noon. Letters to recipients will be mailed out beginning Dec. 8. When and if you receive a letter, YOU MUST bring your LETTER, ENVELOPE and ID with you on pick-up day. Donations of canned goods, other non-perishable food items, and monetary donations can be dropped off at the Post and are greatly appreciated. For more information, call 304-636-3930.

CHRISTMAS DINNER/DANCE: Knights of Columbus Council 603 will hold its annual Christmas Dinner-Dance at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 at Orchard Hall. The meal will include hot Italian sausage in pepper sauce, rigatoni with sauce, ham, Italian bread, tossed salad with Italian dressing, cake, beer, wine and soda. A total of $2,500 in cash prizes will be given away, including five $100 prizes, two $500 prizes and one $1,000 prize. Music will be provided by Dan Dilettoso. No one under age 21 will be admitted. CHURCH BAZAAR: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 302 First Street, Elkins, will host a bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be eat-in or carry-out of a large variety of soups, hot dogs, homemade chili, cinnamon rolls, nacho cheese and chips, cookie plates, baked goods, crafts, candies and a country store.

CRAFT SHOW: Davis & Elkins College’s Student Nursing annual Holiday Craft Show will be Dec. 6 at D& College Memorial Gymnasium-Martin Field House from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Craft Show will feature home decor, crafts, ironwork, home baked goods, gourmet chocolates, jams, apple butter, wood work, candy, jewelry, food, hot dog sale and much more. Free admission.

OLD TIME MUSIC: Join in the first and third Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at The Arts Center in Elkins for an Old Time Music Session. Beginning musicians are encouraged to join in. CRAFT SALE: Orlena Global Methodist Church will host a craft sale 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 5 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 6. There will be baked goods for sale and lunch can be purchased. The menu will feature soups, sandwiches, hot dogs and drinks.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT SHOW & BAZAAR: Elkins Christian Academy will host its annual Christmas Craft Show and Bazaar on Friday, Dec. 5 from 3-7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will benefit upcoming events and activities at the school, and will feature area crafters, bakers, artists, designers, homemade candles & homemade soap, a hot dog and bake sale, and much more. CHRISTMAS CRAFT SHOW: featuring crafts and yard sale items will be Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Grace Church, located across from the Federal Building in Elkins.

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA: Ceremony will be at American Legion Little Arlington Cemetery in Elkins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. Remember and honor our veterans through the laying of remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes and the act of saying the name of each veteran aloud. CHRISTMAS WEDDINGS: Twenty-Second Family Court Circuit Judge Lori Haynes will once again host Christmas-themed weddings this year from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Dec. 17, in her courtroom in Suite 202 of the Wees Annex Building at 32 Randolph Ave. in Elkins. Couples who would like to be married by Judge Haynes on that day should contact her office by phone at 304-630-1169 to make arrangements. The courtroom will be fully decorated for the occasion.
