Adrian PSD addresses violation

BUCKHANNON — After an on-site evaluation, Adrian Public Service District was found in violation of state drinking water requirements for failing to complete corrective actions within the allotted 120 days.

The violation was issued in February after a sanitary survey was conducted by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources at the French Creek tank side.

According to the notification that was sent to customers, the site was not fenced, giving cattle access to the surrounding area of the tank. Due to the traffic from the cows, significant degradation was caused to the tank site.

Lindsey Woody, billing and account specialist for Adrian PSD, said a fence used to be around the tank site; however, it was stolen or removed from someone other than the public service district. She said they were unaware the fencing was missing until the survey was conducted.

Within the 120 days that was given to correct the violation, the PSD did place acceptable fencing around the tank. Since then, proper fencing has been constructed around the area, and has been cleared by the DHHR, said Woody.

Currently, Adrian PSD is renovating new tanks at the Rock Cave and French Creek tank sites, which are expected to be completed at the beginning of next year.

She noted customers never experienced problems with the water, in terms of discoloration, taste, water pressure or any other issues.

“Nothing was every wrong with the water. Nothing,” stressed Woody. “It was just the degradation of the land area around the tank.”

She said in order to meet the requirements of the corrective action, customers had to be notified of the violation.
