Black Lives Matter protest planned in Elkins Sunday
ELKINS — A Black Lives Matter protest and march is slated Sunday in Elkins.
The event is being shared and planned on Facebook and will kick off at 2 p.m. in the Elkins City Park, before marching through downtown Elkins at 2:30 p.m. Organizers are encouraging all those who attend to wear a mask and use social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“To help us be safe during this time, I ask that people wear a mask over their face when possible,” the event page on Facebook states. “Please share the message as much as possible to show that even though Elkins is a small town, we will not stand down for racism and police brutality.”
As of Wednesday afternoon the event has 25 confirmed attendees and 99 people “interested.”
