VALLEY BEND — A Randolph County man was arrested after allegedly crashing an automobile into a tree last weekend while intoxicated.
Darin Roy was charged with DUI second offense, driving revoked DUI, failure to maintain control and obstructing an officer after police responded to a 911 call for a motor vehicle accident on the Back Road on May 18.
According to a press release from Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon, on May 18, Cpl. S.D. Kyle of the RCSO was en route to an auto accident when he was advised by 911 that the driver of the vehicle involved was believed to be “under the influence of something.”
Upon his arrival, Kyle observed an empty case of beer located in the vehicle. Roy kept advising emergency personnel and law enforcement on scene that someone else was in the vehicle and driving at the time of the accident. The release says that emergency personnel advised law enforcement that Roy kept changing the name of who the other occupant was in the vehicle. This caused emergency personnel to have to keep searching the area for a potential second person who may have been involved in the crash
After processing the scene and speaking to witnesses, it was determined that only one occupant was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, according to the release. Deputies also learned from a criminal history check of Roy that he had a revoked driver’s license for DUI.
According to the release, the vehicle traveled approximately 300 feet off the roadway through a yard before striking a tree. A witness stated that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed before it crashed and that Roy got out of the driver’s seat after the accident. Roy was transported to Davis Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained in the accident.
On Wednesday, Kyle obtained a search warrant through the Randolph County Magistrate’s Office for the medical record of Roy and his blood alcohol content on May 18. His blood alcohol content on that date was .202 approximately an hour and half after the accident.
The release states that a warrant was issued and served on Thursday for Roy’s arrest and that he was transported to the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
