Flood watch in effect on Thursday, Friday
ELKINS – The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for portions of Randolph and Pocahontas counties on Thursday and Friday.
The flood watch is in effect from 8 p.m. Thursday through 8 p.m. Friday. Elkins, Harman, Snowshoe and Marlinton are among the areas included in the watch.
The watch states that “flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible,” and that “excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.”
“Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop,” the watch states.
The National Weather Service forecast for Randolph County is calling for “heavy rain” on both days, with an 80% chance of precipitation Thursday and a 90% chance on Friday. Thunderstorms may develop, according to the forecast.
The NWS forecast says 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible on Thursday night, and 1 to 2 inches on Friday.
There is a 30% chance of rain on Friday night, and Saturday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 76 degrees.
