ELKINS — Elkins put up three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim an 11-8 win over Fairmont Senior Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference play at EHS Field.

Owen Stanley reached on an error and Brady Biller laced an infield single to start the sixth for the Tigers.

Dyer Barger then drew a walk to load the bases.

One out later, Nijah Howell singled to right to plate Stanley and Biller, and Jayden Harding brought Barger home on a fielder’s choice to make it 11-8.

Trent Stone retired the side in order in the seventh inning.

The Polar Bears took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on RBI singles from Xavier Marino Garcia and Evin Robbins, who was 3 for 4 on the night.

Elkins answered in the home-half of the frame when Blayne Thompson singled in Cooper and scored on Trent Stone’s double to center to tie the game at 2-2.

Stone later trotted home on Dyer Barger’s infield single to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.

Fairmont Senior regained a 4-3 lead in the third as Jackson Pethel and Jimmy Hershman delivered run-producing singles.

An RBI sacrifice fly from Barger scored Biller in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

After the Polar Bears went back in front in the fourth inning, the Tigers answered with four runs in the home half as Owen Stanley cracked a two-run double, Isaac Shepler an RBI groundout and Braden Cooper raced home on a wild pitch.

Markus Izedepki’s two-run single in the fifth cut the lead to 8-7 and Fairmont Senior drew even on Savion Huggins’ RBI single an inning later.

Thompson went 4 for 4 to lead the Tigers at the plate, while Biller added a pair of safeties.

Biller went the first five innings for Elkins, allowing seven runs — just two being earned — striking out five and walking three.

Stone earned the win in two innings of relief.

The Tigers (5-8) will host Big 10 Conference rival Buckhannon-Upshur at 6 p.m. Thursday.
