MOATSVILLE – An elderly woman died as the result of an early Monday morning fire at a residence in Barbour County, officials said. First responders were called to a structure fire on the Jack Reed Road, and upon their arrival an elderly woman was found trapped upstairs in the home, according to published reports. Firefighters were able to remove the woman from the house, and she was sent for medical treatment for smoke inhalation. TUCKER COUNTY – A man died as a result of a single-vehicle wreck in Tucker County Sunday, police said. Ralph D. Mullenax, 83, of Fairmont, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash, which took place at approximately 3:45 p.m. on U.S. Route 219 in Tucker County, according to a Monday morning West Virginia State Police press release. Mullenax was traveling southbound when he lost control of his vehicle, traveled off the eastern edge of the roadway and crashed, the release states. Mullenax's next of kin has been notified, police said. The investigation remains ongoing.
MARLINTON - More than 700 acres of the Monongahela National Forest in Pocahontas and Tucker counties will be burned as part of a roll out of prescribed burns this fall. The U.S. Forest Service has announced that Monongahela National Forest staff plan to conduct prescribed burns on 726 acres in Pocahontas and Tucker counties.
