Gertrude ‘Gertie’ Ida Howell Shreve

Gertie was born Thursday, April 16, 1942, in Beverly, a daughter of the late Homer Howell and Viola McCauley Howell.

On February 8, 1977, in Maryland, she married Robert Shreve, who survives at home.

Also left to cherish her memory are four children, Linda Christine Hardy, John R. Graham, Robert D. Shreve Jr. and Joseph A. Shreve; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Conway, Rex and Victor Howell.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were two siblings, Bretsel and Beechard Howell.

Gertie attended the schools of Randolph County and obtained her GED. She had been employed as a waitress at Phil’s Restaurant and a substitute cook for Randolph County schools. She loved the outdoors and cooking for her family. Gertie loved going to church where she would sing in the choir and be an active member in church life. Her family, friends, and church family meant the world to her. Gertie said, “Robert and I were always faithful to the house of God and love the Lord.”

Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Gertie’s request for cremation will then be honored.
