Larry Eugene Knicley
Larry Eugene Knicley, 89, a resident of Parsons, West Virginia, departed this life Sunday morning, July 21, 2024, at Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center, with his family by his side and under the care of West Virginia Caring Hospice.
He was born Wednesday, March 27, 1935, in Tucker County, on Clover at St. George, West Virginia, a son of the late Flora Elizabeth Whetzel Knicley. On May 2, 1958, at Oakland, Maryland, he was married to the former Betty Ruth Moreland Knicley, who survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sondra Jean Pingley and husband, Victor, of Dailey, West Virginia; two grandchildren, Andrea Guy and husband, Jonathan, and Joshua Pingley and companion, Alisha; four grandchildren, Lily Pingley, Harlow Guy, Harper Gray Guy and Henry Guy.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by, five brothers, Charlie Knicley, Philip Knicley, Willie D. Knicley, Gilbert Knicley and Warren B. Knicley; one sister, Lessie Stark; two half-brothers, Ernest Howdershell and Edgar Knicley; and three half-sisters, Goldie Lehman, Beulah Phillips and Lottie Knicley.
He attended Parsons High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He traveled to Ohio for construction work, building scafling and then on to Washington, D.C., to do drywall, which he was an excellent drywaller. Larry returned to Parsons and worked construction for Arlie Davis at A&A Construction.
He was a former employee of the Tucker County Board of Education as a School Bus Driver, and alongside his wife, they owned and operated the Main Street Furniture and Appliance until the Flood of 1985 came. During his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his little woodworking shop.
He was a member of the Parsons Church of the Nazarene and attended the St. Johns United Methodist Church at Parsons, West Virginia.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, West Virginia, on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from 10 a.m. until noon. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, at noon. The Reverend Neil Parsons will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, West Virginia, where full military honors will be accorded by members of the West Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard Program, the Tucker County Veterans Association and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
