Brenda Elaine White Bender

BENDER

Brenda Elaine White Bender, 70, a resident of Elkins, passed away Monday, May 12, 2025, in the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center under the care of Mountain Hospice.

She was born Oct. 4, 1954, at Elkins, a daughter of Catherine Mae Shreve Teter, who survives at Elkins, and the late Murrell Eugene White.

On Dec. 31, 1971, at Oakland, Maryland, she was married to her former husband, Leonard Eugene Bender, who survives in Elkins.

Brenda is survived by her son, Brian Eugene Bender of Elkins; her grandchildren, Rusty Bender (Chelsea), Kendra Bender, Alex Bender, Max Bender, Paige Zirkle and Kelcie Zirkle: nine great-grandchildren, Daunte Bender, Taitlyn Bender, Jordan Bender, Audrey Bender, Cole Lawrence, Kiara Lawrence, Raiden Lawrence, Dawson Zirkle and Kolsen Shrader; an aunt, Retha Mae Shreve (Gary) of Elkins; three sisters, Patricia K. White Miller (Gary) and Debra L. White Dumire, all of Elkins, and Roberta K. Teter Johnson (Richard) of Randleman, North Carolina.

Brenda is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Cindy Miller (Scott), Laura L. Miller Vest (Chad), Gary L. Miller, Jr., David K. Dumire (Chanda), William R. Dumire, Seth M. Johnson, Samantha Thompson Moore (Trevor), Brendon Thompson, Peighton Vest, Isaiah K. Dumire, Landon Iseli Dumire, Ian Iseli Dumire, Aubrey Moore Delaney Moore, McKinley Dumire, Michaela Dumire and Hunter Dumire.

Also preceding her in death were her maternal grandparents, Forrest R. and Addie R. Rosencrance Shreve; paternal grandparents, Harry A. (Moses) and Flossie M. Johnson White; her father, Murrell Eugene White; step-father, Robert K. Teter; uncles, Kenneth S. Shreve and Richard B. Shreve; aunts, Mona Marie Shreve, Carolyn J. Shreve Keller and Margaret L. Shreve Shiflett and husband, Clarence.

Brenda was employed for 33 years by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources prior to her retirement in September of 2009. She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed music and the outdoors.

Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she treasured each and every moment with them.

Brenda’s request for cremation has been honored.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday from the funeral home chapel with Bishop Larry McArthur officiating.

Inurnment of her cremains will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
