Mary Lou McCauley Cross

She was born Jan. 26, 1945 at Dartmoor, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Jessie and Hazel McCauley.

On April 26, 1963, she was united in marriage to Gary Lane Cross, who preceded her in death March 19, 2020.

Left to cherish her memory are two children, Shelia Cross of Elkins and Melissa Miller of Valley Bend; three grandchildren, Deven Cross, Josh Kerns and Sean Kerns; and five great-grandchildren, Kinsey Kerns, Oliver Kerns, Atlas Kerns, Ryder Cross and Bennett Cross.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Donnie McCauley, Tinker McCauley and Joe McCauley; and three sisters, Mildred “Sis” Duckworth, Phyllis Wiseman and Pearl Spessert.

Mary was a graduate of the Belington High School with the class of 1963 and was a member of the Belington Presbyterian Church. She previously worked as an in-home care giver to the elderly. She was very active in volunteering in the community and was a former member of the Belington Kiwanis Club, where she spent many hours volunteering and helping out the club. She was also a member of the Belington Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she spent many tireless hours contributing to the fire department. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted by the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Jimmie E. Tallman officiating.

Per Mary’s request cremation will follow.

Interment of her cremains will be at a later date.
