Barbour County preparing for Lurch Fest excitement

Hello from Barbour County! I hope that you are all having a good summer!

On Wednesday, July 30, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at 17 North Event Center, there will be music by The Derailers and Son of Lurch. Rod’s Burgers will be serving up some creepy, kooky, delicious Lurch-inspired burgers for a weird and wonderful night. Don’t miss out.

Lurch Fest will be celebrating it’s fifth year soon! On Aug. 1, Ted Cassidy’s son, Sean, will be at 17 North for a special proclamation and answering session meet and greet. While there, have dinner at Ted’s Taco Stand and spend the evening with everything “Lurch.” Food starts at 6 p.m.

Then, the next day, come out to Philippi for the biggest Lurch Fest yet. From music to food, lots of laughs, fun, and even fireworks, the night promises to be one that you won’t forget.

First day of school in Barbour County will be Aug. 14.

There will be a Pickleball Tournament on Aug. 23 at the Belington City Park. Check-in time will be at 8 a.m, with the start time at 9 a.m. This is a doubles-only pickleball tournament.

If you pre-register before Aug. 16, the cost will be less than if you register on the day of the tournament. There is a link on “The Belington Board of Parks” Facebook page to register. In case of rain, this event will be moved to the Civic Center.

Aug. 23 will also kick off the Barbour County Fair with the Queen’s Pageant. beginning at 6:30 p.m. There are three young ladies competing for the title this year: Aubrey D’Angelo, Kendra Stalnaker, and Olivia Marion will give us their best to try and take home the crown.

This whole week promises to be an exciting time of food, rides, 4-H shows, music, demolition derby, races and more.

Don’t forget the Grand Feature Parade “Dive Into The 2025 Barbour County Fair.”.

Mark your calendars for Sept. 4. Haven of Hope Worship Center and Battler’s Knob presents the Reunion Tour of Petra. General admission tickets for this concert are available, with VIP seats costing a bit more. For more information, call 304-823-3428.
