Applause to the Elkins High School Theatre’s production of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” which will be presented today in a matinee performance at 3 p.m., with doors opening at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for the show can be purchased at the door. EHS Theatre Director Jennifer Armstrong is directing the show alongside fellow EHS teacher Andrew Carroll.

Applause to the multiple First United Methodist Church groups who are offering a variety of events today in Elkins. The United Women of Faith from FUMC will offer their semi-annual Country Store, which provides a large variety of gently used items at a “name your own price” sale. The Country Store will be open today from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. The group will have a handmade quilt and theme gift baskets on display. During the ongoing sale today, the First United Methodist Men will continue their more-than-50-year tradition of providing their pancake and regular sausage meals, along with a limited offer of “spring tonic” ramp sausage.

Applause to the annual Lenten Fish Fry, one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Knights of Columbus. It began Friday and will run for six consecutive weeks at the St. Brendan Catholic Church.The weekly dinners will be offered at the Church’s Parish Hall and will take place each Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The dates for the dinners include: March 7, March 14, March 21, Marsh 28, April 4 and April 11. The dinners, which are available for dine-in and carry-out, include pollock, french fries, coleslaw, dessert, bread and a drink. Money raised from the Fish Frys go toward a host of charities and organizations that the Knights of Columbus helps support, including Catholic Charities of Elkins, which provides caring and compassionate services to area people in need. 

Applause to the Mountain State Forest Festival’s Woodly the Elf Poster Contest, which is currently underway. The winner will become the official mascot of the 87th Mountain State Forest Festival. The winner of this contest will become a member of the Royal Minor Court of Queen Silvia LXXXVII. Woodly the Elf will also appear at the Buckwheat and Strawberry Festivals. The poster must depict Woodly and the 2025 theme “Embrace Nature’s Charm.” Students eligible include students in Grades 2, 3, 4 in Randolph County in Spring 2025. Posters are due by Tuesday, April 1.
