Post 29 drops games to Wheeling, Buckhannon

WHEELING — Wheeling Post 1 tallied five runs in the second inning en route to a 9-2 win over Elkins Post 29 on Sunday.

Post 29 also lost games to Post 1, 8-4, and Buckhannon Post 7, 9-8, on Saturday.

Collin Paull and Alex Taylor knocked in two runs apiece to lead Wheeling in Sunday’s affair.

Jack Selmon worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits and fanning 12 to earn the win.

Miles Hutzler and Albert Gonzales had RBIs for Elkins

Zane McCord took the loss in two innings pitched, giving up five runs — none being earned — on two hits.

Hutzler and Brayden Hamer finished in relief.

In Saturday’s action, Dylan Gongola and Quinn Jamison had two RBIs to lead Wheeling to an 8-4 victory.

Paull worked five innings to garner the victory. He gave up two runs on four hits, striking out three and walking three.

Gonzales had two RBIs, while Payton McCourt and Matthew Pratt each drove in one.

Cody Cooper was saddled with the loss in three innings of action, surrendering six runs, two being earned, on four hits and fanning five.

Grant Mealey’s walk-off RBI single in the eighth inning gave Buckhannon a 9-8 win over Post 29 in Saturday’s second game.

Elijah Bryant led Post 7 at the plate with three RBIs. Mealey and Isaac Lane added two RBIs each.

Lane worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to get the win. He gave up one hit and struck out four.

Pratt and Ethan Humphrey had two RBIs apiece and Cooper drove in a run to lead Elkins at the dish.

Humphrey took the loss in 3 2/3 innings of relief. He gave up three runs on four hits and struck out four.

Buckhannon also dropped a 13-3 decision to Post 1 on Saturday and a 10-1 verdict on Sunday.
