Post 2 captures area title
BUCKHANNON — Top-seed Morgantown Post 2 pounded out 14 hits en route to defeating second-seed Bridgeport Post 68, 13-3, in the American Legion Area 2 championship game Friday night at Hank Ellis Field.
Tommy Montague, Cody Thomas and Wenkai Campbell each had two RBIs for Post 2, which plated six runs in the first and five more in the third.
Morgantown tacked on a single run in the bottom of the sixth to end the game due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Sam Goodwin and Grant Lively had RBIs for Post 68, which defeated Clarksburg, 4-1, earlier in the day to advance to the title game — needing a win to force a deciding game today.
Gunner Riley also went 3 for 4 for Post 2 with an RBI.
Dylan Travinski worked five innings to earn the win, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits.
Both Morgantown and Bridgeport advance to next week’s state tournament in Martinsburg.
