Bulldogs drop verdict to Bath County

MILL CREEK — Hunter Kirby threw four touchdowns passes and ran for another to help power Bath County (Va.) to a 53-22 victory over Tygarts Valley Friday night in front of a homecoming crowd at Bulldog Field.

The game ended before the fourth quarter clock expired after a Bulldog player was injured and had to be treated on the field by EMS. The game was delayed for close to 15 minutes before officials called the contest.

The Chargers (2-1) jumped out to an 8-0 lead when Kirby connected with Walker Randozzo for a 55-yard touchdown with 1:29 left to play in the first quarter.

After a Tygart Valley (1-3) turnover, Bath County pushed the lead to 14-0 when Ehtan Bryant scampered in for a 51-yard touchdown with 22 second remaining in the opening stanza.

The Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to 14-8 when Austin Gear threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Aiden Phares at the 10:02 mark of the second quarter. Adam Woods ran in the two-point conversion after the score.

The Chargers answered with a 7-play, 70–yard drive that was capped off by a Kirby 2-yard touchdown run that made it 20-8 with 6:37 left to play in the half.

Bath County found the end zone one more time before the break when Kirby threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Edward Perdue that gave the visitors a 27-8 lead at halftime. The Chargers held a 282-59 edge in total yards through two quarters of play.

TV’s Jacob Wamsley took the opening kickoff of the second half 71 yards to paydirt as Tygarts Valley cut the deficit to 27-16 after a two-point conversion.

Bath County answered and pushed the lead to 33-16 when Kirby connected with Jake Boguess for an 8-yard touchdown with 8:44 remaining in the third quarter.

The Chargers’ Owen Perdue recovered a fumble and rumbled in for a touchdown to extend the visitors’ lead to 39-16 with 7:30 left to play in the third quarter.

Another Bulldog turnover led to a fourth touchdown pass from Kirby as he hit Owen Perdue for a 4-yard score to make it 46-16 at the 4:39 mark of the third quarter.

D.J. Palmer capped off the scoring for Bath County in the fourth quarter when he ran in for a 4-yard touchdown.

Tygarts Valley ended the scoring in the contest when Woods raced in for a 75-yard kickoff return touchdown.

The Bulldogs will travel to Pendleton County next Friday..
