Tigers remain 13th in playoff ratings

ELKINS — With two regular-season games remaining, Elkins finds itself still at 13th in this week’s Class AAA portion of the WVSSAC playoff ratings released on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers are now 5-3 on the season after dropping back-to-back decisions to No. 6 North Marion and No. 3 Fairmont Senior.

They will look to halt their losing skid Friday night at home against Brooke, which brings a 3-5 record into Tiger Stadium.

Princeton took over the top spot in Class AAA, while Bridgeport is second, Herbert Hoover fourth and Greenbrier East fifth.

Despite being idle on Friday, Philip Barbour (5-2) fell one spot to fourth in Class AA. The Colts venture to Lewis County this week.

Independence remained atop of the Class AA ratings, with Frankfort second, Bluefield third and Doddridge County fifth.

Tucker County, which has lost two in a row, is 12th in single-A. The Mountain Lions (5-3) are idle this week and were ninth in last week’s ratings.

Wahama, Wheeling Central, Sherman, Tug Valley and Pendleton County comprise the top five in Class A.

Huntington is first in Class AAAA, followed by Morgantown, Martinsburg, Wheeling Park and University.

Buckhannon-Upshur (1-6) is 18th and visits Lincoln this Friday.

The top 16 teams in each class qualify for the playoffs set to get underway next month.
