Lady Tigers win Bridge invite

Girls set two meet relay records; Elkins boys finish as runner-ups

BRIDGEPORT — The two-time defending state champions Elkins girls swam to first in the Bridge Invitational held Monday at The Bridge Sports Complex, while the boys turned in a second-place finish.

The Invitational was comprised primarily of Big 10 Conference schools, along with the Herbert Hoover and Parkersburg South girls and Parkersburg South boys.

The Lady Tigers racked up 135 points to outdistance Herbert Hoover’s 112.

Fairmont Senior (86), Parkersburg South (79) and Buckhannon-Upshur (57) rounded out the top five.

The Elkins girls swept the relay events, setting a pair of meet records, and received a first-place in the individual events from Emma Ujvagi in the 100-yard backstroke (1:16.34).

The Elkins High School 200-yard freestyle relay team of Aleah Irons, Leah Ours, Sophia Rhodes and Emma Ujvagi set a meet record in the Bridge Invitational with a time of 1:47.57.

The senior was also second in the 200 IM in a time of 2:25.09.

Ujvagi joined Aleah Irons, Lilly Irons and Lilly Anger in taking the 200 medley relay with an effort of 2:00.68, and teamed with Aleah Irons, Leah Ours and Sophia Rhodes in winning the 200 freestyle relay in a record-setting time of 1:47.57.

Their effort broke the previous mark of 1:47.65 achieved in 2022.

Lilly Irons, Ours, Rhodes and Anger also set a new meet mark in the 400 freestyle relay with an effort of 3:57.07 — eclipsing the old record of 3:59.96 set in 2024.

Lilly Irons was also runner-up in both the 50 freestyle (26.12) and 100 freestyle (56.74), Aleah Irons was second in the 100 backstroke (1:07.63) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:06.81) and Rhodes was third in the 200 freestyle (2:14.58).

The Elkins High School 400-yard freestyle relay team of Lilly Anger, Lilly Irons, Leah Ours and Sophia Rhodes broke a meet record in the Bridge Invitational with an effort of 3:57.07.

For B-U, Mallory Hughes was third in the 50 freestyle (26.26) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (58.90) and Aubry Shay third in the 500 freestyle (6:15.02) and fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.14).

The EHS boys racked up 88 points to finish behind Bridgeport’s 185.

Parkersburg South was third with 79, while Fairmont Senior (77) and Grafton (30) rounded out the top five.

B-U was sixth with 20 points.

Kyan George finished first in the 100 backstroke (58.01) and was third in the 50 freestyle (23.63) for the Tigers, Joel Casto captured the 100 breaststroke (1:04.79) and was third in the 100 freestyle (53.67) and Dorsey Cutright finished third in the 100 backstroke (1:06.03)

Cutright, Casto, George and Kolton Ward were third in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:54.27.

Elkins was slated to host East Fairmont for Senior Night on Wednesday.

Seniors to be honored were Emma Ujvagi, Raighan Carte Hall, Jayla Reams and Logan Jones.
