High school state swim meet begins today

Lady Tigers seek third straight title in two-day event

MORGANTOWN — The Elkins High School girls seek a third straight title when the state swim meet gets underway today at Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.

Action begins at 9:45 a.m. for the preliminaries and 6 p.m. for the finals action.

The meet concludes on Friday.

Elkins is competing in the Division II portion and will be represented in the girls race by the 200-yard medley relay team of Aleah Irons, Emma Ujvagi, Lilly Irons and Lilly Anger, Lilly Irons, Sophia Rhodes and Raighan Carte Hall in the 200 freestyle, Ujvagi, Kenadi Carte in the 200 IM, Anger and Leah Ours in the 50 freestyle, Aleah Irons and Kenadi Carte in the 100 butterfly, Lilly Irons, Rhodes, Ours and Izzy Ludwig in the 100 freestyle, Anger and Raighan Carte Hall in the 500 freestyle, the 200 freestyle relay of Aleah Irons, Ours, Rhodes and Ujvagi, Aleah Irons in the 100 backstroke, Ujvagi and Molly McFadden in the 100 breaststroke and Lilly Irons, Ours, Rhodes and Anger in the 400 freestyle relay.

Philip Barbour athletes competing include the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays (Taylor McKinsey, Kendra Stalnaker, Bekha Kennedy and Bridget McGee), Kennedy in the 100 butterfly, McGee in the 500 freestyle, McKinsey in the 100 backstroke, Stalnaker in the 100 breaststroke and McKinsey, Stalnaker, Cole Hall and McGee in the 400 freestyle relay.

Representing the EHS boys are the 200 relay of Dorsey Cutright, Joel Casto, Kyan George and Kolton Ward, Briar Higgins and Zenna Jones in the 200 freestyle, Casto and Kyler Warner in the 200 IM, George in the 50 freestyle, Cutright and Warner in the 100 butterfly, Higgins in the 100 freestyle, Ward and Jones in the 500 freestyle, Higgins, Cutright, Casto and George in the 200 freestyle relay, George, Cutright and Jackson Shepherd in the 100 backstroke, Casto and Ward in the 100 breaststroke and Ward, Shepherd, Warner and Higgins in the 400 freestyle relay.

For Philip Barbour, Hayden Dalton (200 IM, 100 butterfly) and Isaiah Starks (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) are competing.

In Division I, Buckhannon-Upshur will be represented in the girls race by Mallory Hughes (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Aubrey Shay (500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke), the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay of Shay, Madison Cutright, Lena Rose Walker and Hughes and Grayson Colburn (500 freestyle) in the boys meet.
