Lady Hornets’ Pyles sets school record in 3,200

BRIDGEPORT — The Elkins Middle School track teams opened the season this past Saturday in the Connect-Bridgeport Invitational.

Clara Pyles won the 3,200 and set a new Elkins Middle School record with a time of 11:50.52.

The other first-place finisher for the Lady Hornets, who tied East Fairmont and Ritchie County for second in the meet with 66 points, was Isabella Drain-White (discus, 73-11). She was also fourth in the shot put (28-10).

The 4×200 relay of Everley Harper, Flora Perkins, Ruthie Capps and Lily Hayes placed second with a time of 2:06.39, Vivienne Shepherd was third in the 200-meter hurdles (35.74), Harper third in long jump (13-10) and fourth in the 100 (14.58), Claire Bennett fourth in discus (62-9), Hayes fourth in the long jump (13-6.75) and sixth in the long jump (4-6), the 4×400 team of Callea Hinkle, Perkins, Shepherd, and Kendall Ward) placed fifth(5:02.21), Ward finished sixth in the 3,200 (13:20.23) the 4×100 relay (Harper, Hinkle, Capps and Hayes) was sixth (59.92) and the 4×800 relay (Willow Tallman, Jane McFadden, Valentina Aguilar and Ward) was sixth in a time of 12:40.91.

For the EMS boys, the 4×100 relay (Griffin Reesman, Aiden Treola, Eddie Shiflett and Grant Morgan) placed sixth with a time of 55.5 and the same unit was sixth in the 4×200 in a time of 1:57.63.
