Down The Stretch

MORGANTOWN — The West Virginia women’s basketball team may be sore, bruised and a little rough around the edges heading into its final two games of the regular season. That notion was tossed at WVU head coach Mark Kellogg. Sitting right next to him at the time was junior guard Gia ...

Ineich faces ex-team in WVU’s home opener vs. Ohio

MORGANTOWN — Matt Ineich stepped up to the plate for the fifth time in West Virginia baseball’s last game against Georgia Southern. On the 2-1 pitch, Ineich roped a double. This was his third hit of the game, finishing the day 3-for-3. Ineich had the first RBI, which helped the Mountaineers win the game 5-2, sweeping the Eagles. “[Ineich] is an animal,” head coach Steve Sabins said. WVU had high expectations coming into the season after a super regional finish last year. The Mountaineers lost a couple of key players, so Sabins rebuilt the roster through transfers, and ...

Mountaineers set to battle Oklahoma State

MORGANTOWN — It may be somewhat uncanny how much the West Virginia men’s basketball team is a near-mirror image of Oklahoma State. For 14 years now, the Mountaineers have been a member of the Big 12. It’s even got to the point where the schools’ head coaches sound alike. “We never made it a game early. I thought we made it a game in the second half, ...

Before the 2025 season started, defensive coordinator Zac Alley said a point of emphasis would be creating more disruption in the backfield. Through the first couple of games, the Mountaineers were top 5 in the NCAA in sacks, which was a major improvement from 2024, when they struggled to disrupt the quarterback. That lasted about three games, then WVU went four games without a sack. WVU picked up the pace towards the end of the season, and actually had a season-high seven sacks against Colorado. But a lot ...

WVU’s offensive struggles continue

MORGANTOWN — For a West Virginia basketball fan, this first season of the Ross Hodge era as coach is turning into a recurring nightmare, the latest being a 60-54 loss at TCU late Saturday afternoon. The way Hodge put it in his post-game analysis with broadcaster Tony Caridi was a refrain ...
