W.Va. is expanding the Gold Rush Season

The 2018 hunting season has not been one of my best and nowhere near what I expected. Last year, I was skunked for the deer season and I only bagged six gray squirrels (three each with two different shotguns). My favorite .22 rimfire squirrel rifle was never out of the gun-safe last fall. The bushy-tail season does not go out until Feb. 28; but hunting these critters in the “Dead of the Winter” often ends up being a waste of time. A major concern for the state of racing

I want to start the column with some news that is somewhat troubling regarding the health of our sport. First of all, it doesn’t take an expert to see crowds are down at almost all the races this year in all three of the traveling series of NASCAR racing. Many of the races seemed to even suffer from reduced TV viewership. Catching up with Super Late Model news

I thought I would take this off week to catch up on some Super Late Model news. Two of the biggest events the entire year took place over the last month. The World of Outlaws Super Late Models, Big Block Northern Modifieds and the Winged Outlaw Sprint cars all decided their year-end point championships at the dirt track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The World Finals — as it’s called — should be on every race fans bucket list! Champions crowned in Miami

Playoff weekend is over at Homestead-Miami Speedway and NASCAR has three new champions. The Ford EcoBoost Championship weekend is always exciting and this year was no different. Four drivers in each of the three top traveling series go into the weekend tied and literally how they finish determines who will be named champion in the respective series. First up was the Camping World Truck series on Friday evening for the Ford EcoBoost 200. Grant Enfinger fell just short of the final four so he came to race with no real pressure. Major battle for playoffs

It is almost Championship weekend for all of NASCAR! There was an event that took place after the race in Texas that definitely added drama to the countdown toward the Playoffs. After the deadline for publishing my column it was announced that Kevin Harvick would have his guaranteed starting spot taken away, plus the loss of his crew chief and was docked 40 championship points for both owner and driver and fined $70,000!
