DNR trout stockings are in high gear

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources trout stocking season is now in high gear, and is currently running Monday through Friday, weather permitting. The winter and spring stockings will run through May 31. The trout stocking began on Jan. 2, with stockings at Blackwater River, Cranberry River, Pendleton Lake and a few others. On Jan. 3, the DNR stocked the East Fork of the Greenbrier River, Spruce Knob Lake, the West Fork of the Greenbrier River and about a dozen other streams throughout the state. W.Va. is expanding the Gold Rush Season

The 2018 hunting season has not been one of my best and nowhere near what I expected. Last year, I was skunked for the deer season and I only bagged six gray squirrels (three each with two different shotguns). My favorite .22 rimfire squirrel rifle was never out of the gun-safe last fall. The bushy-tail season does not go out until Feb. 28; but hunting these critters in the “Dead of the Winter” often ends up being a waste of time. A major concern for the state of racing

I want to start the column with some news that is somewhat troubling regarding the health of our sport. First of all, it doesn’t take an expert to see crowds are down at almost all the races this year in all three of the traveling series of NASCAR racing. Many of the races seemed to even suffer from reduced TV viewership.
