Catching up with Super Late Model news

I thought I would take this off week to catch up on some Super Late Model news. Two of the biggest events the entire year took place over the last month. The World of Outlaws Super Late Models, Big Block Northern Modifieds and the Winged Outlaw Sprint cars all decided their year-end point championships at the dirt track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The World Finals — as it’s called — should be on every race fans bucket list! Decided over three evenings in the cool North Carolina air, the action is literally non-stop except for an occasional shower from Mother Nature. Rain ...

Champions crowned in Miami

Playoff weekend is over at Homestead-Miami Speedway and NASCAR has three new champions. The Ford EcoBoost Championship weekend is always exciting and this year was no different. Four drivers in each of the three top traveling series go into the weekend tied and literally how they finish determines who will be named champion in the respective series. First up was the Camping World Truck series on Friday evening for the Ford EcoBoost 200. Grant Enfinger fell just short of the final four so he came to race with no real pressure. He took the early lead and won stage 1. Stage 2 ...

Major battle for playoffs

It is almost Championship weekend for all of NASCAR! There was an event that took place after the race in Texas that definitely added drama to the countdown toward the Playoffs. After the deadline for publishing my column it was announced that Kevin Harvick would have his guaranteed starting spot taken away, plus the loss of his crew chief and was docked 40 championship points for both owner and driver and fined $70,000! This was due to the team using an in- house built spoiler on the rear of his Freaky Fast Jimmy Johns Ford instead of the approved standard NASCAR ...

Two-week deer season quickly approaching

The traditional West Virginia two-week deer buck gun season will come in on Monday, Nov. 19 and will run until Dec. 1. Running concurrently with this deer season will be the antlerless firearms season in all counties or parts of counties having an antlerless season. This includes all of Randolph County. Hunters need to keep in mind that all antlerless deer hunters must have a Class N or NN stamp along with a base hunting license unless the resident hunter is hunting on their own land. Non-resident hunters must have a non-resident license even if they are hunting on their own land. In ...

Two spots open in NASCAR playoff hunt

One more weekend remains to decide who battles it out at Homestead Miami Speedway for all three of the traveling NASCAR top series championships. This past weekend they all did battle at the blazing fast 1 1/2-mile Texas Motor Speedway. There was some great racing and some shake ups in the playoff standings leading up to the races at the unique Phoenix Raceway. This track has two completely different shaped ends even though it’s considered an oval it challenges both crew chief and driver to try and find the best combination. At one mile in length and just having undergone a ...

Logano angers Truex Jr. in victory

The NASCAR Camping World Truck series and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup series both raced this past weekend at the tight paperclip shaped half-mile Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Virginia. The Xfinity series teams had a weekend off in their playoff races. They will be back in action Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway. The first teams up were the trucks for the Texas Roadhouse 200, and they always put on a great short track show there. GMS Racing had their trucks on a rail. Veteran Johnny Sauter moved out to the early lead and won the first and second stages and the 20 bonus ...
