Movie Review: I scream, you scream, we all scream, but ‘Scream 7’ is an uninspired bore

(AP) — Early in “Scream 7,” in one of those blasts of the franchise’s signature, self-mocking irony, Neve Campbell is taunted for sitting out “Scream VI.” “It’s not the same without you,” she is told. It’s true: Campbell’s Sidney Prescott is the plucky heart of this series, the original Scream Queen, the so-called Final Girl, who bites her lip and yet leaps into action when needed. “Scream VI” tried to put defibrillator paddles on the Ghostface killer franchise without Campbell, and it felt like a stutter-step. So it’s a welcome back for Sidney Prescott ...

Hints From Heloise

Find healthy snacks for children Dear Heloise: To Susan L., as a retired registered dietitian who specialized in pediatrics, I absolutely do not recommend popsicles as a snack. They are high in simple sugars and can be high in added sugar, with limited vitamins and minerals and no fiber. There are numerous other healthy snacks that are not high in sugar, such as hummus with vegetable sticks or cheese with whole-grain, low-sugar crackers. Although fresh fruit contains natural sugar, it is not sticky and has vitamins and fiber. — Dena G., via email SEND A GREAT HINT TO: ...

Skilled trades

The skilled trades have become hot of late. That has many young people dropping plans to attend college. Meanwhile, some desk-bound professionals are said to gaze longingly at nearby construction sites. They daydream about trading spreadsheets for tool belts. They imagine becoming plumbers, electricians or carpenters — welders, riggers or crane operators. The list of hands-on jobs that require real training is long. Why the change of hearts? Three reasons: 1. Artificial intelligence will soon do the thinking required for many of these office occupations. 2. The realization that ...

Mamdani’s New York flirts with chaos

A brutal cold snap has gripped New York City and much of the East Coast, freezing streets, sidewalks — and, it seems, any remaining sense of civic restraint. In Washington Square Park, a group of adults began hurling snowballs and other objects at responding officers from the New York City Police Department. This was not playful roughhousing in a winter storm. Video shows grown men and women -- some masked, some standing brazenly in the open, all apparently confident that consequences would be minimal — pelting officers as they arrived on scene. That confidence is the ...

Patriotism vs. pettiness

Most State of the Union addresses are forgettable the moment they end. Not this one. President Trump delivered a consequential speech that highlighted what he believes are some of his major accomplishments during the first year of his second term. He also demonstrated a flair for the dramatic. It was likely the most partisan message of its kind ever delivered by a president. He frequently criticized those Democrats who bothered to attend (more than 70 members didn’t), calling them “crazy” and accusing them of favoring open borders and higher taxes. He also criticized the ...

Convicted stowaway arrested again after alleged ticketless flight

NEW YORK (AP) — A woman on probation for stowing away on an international flight has been arrested again after sneaking onto a flight from Newark, New Jersey, to Milan, Italy, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the matter. Svetlana Dali, convicted in 2024 for flying to Paris without a passport or ticket, was taken into custody Thursday at Milan's Malpensa Airport, said the official, who was not authorized to disclose information publicly about the case and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. FBI spokesperson Emily Molinari said the agency's ...
