Elkins City Hall News
One week in and your newly elected council are hard at work alongside veteran council and administrative officers. Next week will kick off with a Monday morning Public Safety meeting at 10 a.m. where continuing chair Dave Parker will lead a discussion of the minimum age for entry-level police officers. In June of 2017, Council approved an ordinance to raise the minimum age from 18 to 21 and Public Safety has been compelled to take another look at the effectiveness of this rule.
The Personnel Committee, under the leadership of longtime councilman Carman Metheny has a full agenda for their 1 p.m. meeting later that same day. One item they will consider is the development of a schedule of essential trainings for employees and officials, as is called for in the 2018-2023 Strategic Plan.
While the remainder of the week is free of committee and council meetings, several elected and appointed officials will be attending the Legislative Luncheon sponsored by the Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce. This is a post-session opportunity to hear our representatives impressions of what was accomplished, what may have fallen short, and what they plan to work toward next year.
