Dead body found in Barbour County

SAND RUN — Police say the dead body of a man was found in Barbour County Thursday morning, and state officials will be investigating the death.

The Barbour County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at approximately 7:15 a.m. “in the area of Sand Run, Barbour County,” according to information released by the department.

“Upon arrival on scene officers determined that the remains located were of a deceased male,” a statement on the department’s Facebook page reads. “The identity and cause of death of the body is unknown at this time.

“The remains are being sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston, West Virginia for proper identification and to determine the cause of death. Chief Deputy Brett M. Carpenter of the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department is investigating,” the release states.

“Any questions may be directed to the investigating officer, Chief Deputy Brett M. Carpenter, 304-457-5167. Also on scene was the West Virginia State Police, Philippi Fire Department, and the Barbour County Emergency Squad.”
