Congratulations to the award-winning Inter-Mountain! A long-time dear friend recently got me a limited subscription and I am very pleased with your newspaper. Memories abound, as I began my broadcasting career at WDNE radio. I spent 1953 on the air there and later on radio and TV in my hometown of Huntington. I read carefully every page of The Inter-Mountain upon receipt of each issue. Thank you for making my day! Robert Hanger San Angelo, Texas
Congratulations to South Korea for finally joining Western civilization in banning dog meat trade. When will we be taking the next civilized step of banning all animal meat trade? What ever makes dogs more deserving of life and liberty than cows and pigs? But there is more. According to the United Nations, meat and dairy use 83% of global farmland and account for 60% of agriculture’s greenhouse gas emissions. Last, but not least, the current Netflix hit series “You Are What You Eat” should convince any doubters that getting more civilized is actually good for our ...
My comments are directed towards the information provided and the comments made by Superintendent Dilly regarding the ongoing discussion on the closure of Harman School. This is not a personal attack on Dr. Dilly. My comments, however, reveal the shortsightedness of many of the conclusions and recommendations presented at the Board of Education meeting of Jan. 14. I don’t think Dr. Dilly expected to see the level of support for our children, grandchildren and communities as he has observed in the last few weeks and will witness again over the next months. Many of us in Randolph ...
This letter is in response to the letter from Chanda Adkins in the Jan. 6 edition of The Inter-Mountain. Ms. Adkins is exhorting people to come to a rally at the state Capitol called the WV Health Freedom Day, and is advocating for West Virginians to have the option of not vaccinating their children for school. We, the undersigned, are against such legislation. Presently, West Virginia is one of just a few states who have strict requirements for vaccines at school entry. Because of this, our state enjoys the lack of deadly infectious diseases. Just last week, medical news revealed that ...
Froma Harrop, a syndicated Columnist, wrote an article printed in the Dec. 6 issue of The Inter-Mountain called “Facing Consequences.” I am grateful for the opportunity to respond to her comments. There are very significant negative consequences to vaccines that she did not mention. I am Chanda Adkins, a clinical pharmacist. I am from Mill Creek and went to Tygarts Valley High School. I currently reside in Beckley. I graduated from WVU School of Pharmacy in 2005. I completed a clinical practice residency at Charleston Area Medical Center in 2008. I served in our Legislature in ...
For whatever it is worth coming from me, I want to give a long overdue and well deserved shout-out to the Randolph County DOH crews who pick up dead deer along the road. While it isn’t the most pleasant job and sometimes can be quite disgusting, it is a very necessary job which not only contributes to the aesthetic quality of our county but also aids in traffic safety. Those crews are among the unsung heroes of the working people in the county. Good job, everybody. Thank you. Charles Church Valley Bend
