Thanksgiving in Barbour County

Happy Thanksgiving from Barbour County. Deer season is upon us. To some, this is a holiday just as important as Thanksgiving and Christmas. I hope everyone is safe in the woods this year. There will be a Barbour County Community Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner at Battlers Knob, Heiner Hall on Sunday, Nov. 24 from 3-5 p.m. (or until the food is gone). This is hosted by Kaytee Thorn in an attempt to be sure that as many people as possible get to enjoy Thanksgiving. Delford Sharp, a longtime resident of Mingo, West Virginia, celebrated his 99th birthday on Oct. 21 at the home of his niece in Forest Hill, Maryland. Friends and family from Tennessee, West Virginia and Maryland came to celebrate the joyous occasion.

Elkins High School class of 1959 hosts 65th reunion

ELKINS — The Elkins High School Class of 1959 met Friday, Sept. 7, at Smoke on the Water to celebrate their 65th reunion. A delicious dinner was enjoyed by 25 with an evening of “Remember When.” Saturday’s event was held at the Elks Club, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion. Dinner was catered by “Puttin on the Ritz,” a delightful group from Pocahontas County. The invocation was delivered by Burton Hare, who after high school graduated from the Minnesota Ministerial College.
