Randolph County Democratic Convention set

ELKINS – The Randolph County Democratic Executive Committee Chair has announced that the 2024 Randolph County Democratic Convention will take place next weekend.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16 at the Kump Education Center, located on Randolph Avenue in Elkins.

An official convention chair and secretary will be elected during the County Convention. Attendees will elect 22 county delegates to represent Randolph at the State Convention in Charleston on June 14_15.

“We encourage all registered Democrats, who are residents of Randolph County, to get involved in the Democratic process and attend this important event,” County Chair Cindy Stemple said in a press release. “This convention is important because those elected as delegates will go to Charleston in June and will vote for the people who will represent our state at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois in August.”

West Virginia has been allocated 25 delegates and two alternates to the Democratic National Convention. The delegates to the National Convention are selected during the state conventions.

The Randolph County Convention is open to all registered Democrats in Randolph County and those who would like to be Democrats. Voter registration forms will be available at the convention for those who wish to register as Democrats.

County Conventions are mandated by state statute. A county must hold a convention every year that there is a presidential election. At the State Convention, the delegates will also approve the Party Platform and elect five Presidential Electors.

The Kump Education Center’s doors will open at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 for registration and refreshments, Byrd’s donuts and coffee. Democratic candidates will be available for a meet and greet during the event, and families are welcome.

The West Virginia Primary Election will be Tuesday, May 14, and early voting will take place in Randolph County from May 1 to May 11.

The General Election will be held on Nov. 5, with early voting scheduled for Oct. 23 through Nov. 2.

Randolph County voters seeking to cast their ballots early for the Primary Election can do so at the Weese Annex on Randolph Avenue in Elkins, or at the Russell Memorial Library in Mill Creek.

Starting at $3.92/week.
