Coffman holds off GOP challengers in Upshur
BUCKHANNON — The incumbent Upshur County sheriff bested his GOP challengers Tuesday.
Incumbent Upshur County Sheriff Mike Coffman, a Republican from Buckhannon, received 3,545 votes. He was appointed to the position in April 2023, after Sheriff Virgil Miller passed away unexpectedly.
Coffman was challenged by Timothy “Timmy” Kelley, a Republican from Rock Cave, who garnered 451 votes, and Chester Zickefoose, a Republican from Buckhannon, who received 271 votes.
Incumbent Upshur County Commissioner Kristie G. Tenney, a Republican from Buckhannon, received 2,959 votes, while challenger Scott H. Williams, a Republican from Buckhannon, garnered 1,254 votes.
In the race for the Upshur County Commission’s unexpired term of two years, Doug Bush, a Republican from Buckhannon, who was appointed to the position following the unexpected death of Terry Cutright, received 2,106 votes, while Patrick Kyle Lane, a Republican from Buckhannon, garnered 1,689 votes, and Jesse Davidson, a Republican from Kanawha Head, totaled 347.
In the non-partisan Upshur County Board of Education race, William A. “Willie” Parker of Buckhannon totaled 1,843 votes, and Rob Hinton of Ellamore garnered 1,822 votes, for one of the two open seats.
Susan M. King of Buckhannon garnered 3,167 votes, and Neil W. Leput of Buckhannon received 754 votes for the other BOE seat.
In the City of Buckhannon municipal election held Tuesday, the top three votegetters for City Council were Robert Zuliani, with 533 votes, Jack Reger with 475 votes, and Pam Bucklew with 386 votes.
The other candidates receiving votes were Scott Randall with 356, Laura Foulks with 182, John Antolini with 179, Jim Valenson with 128, and Mike Ruffing with 127.
Buckhannon City Council seats do not represent individual districts Therefore, the top three vote-getters will be elected to City Council.
Buckhannon Mayor Robbie Skinner, running unopposed for re-election, received 807 votes.
The vote on the Board of Education levy failed, with 2,780 voting against the levy, and 2,432 voting in favor of it.
In the race for the District 65 House of Delegates seat, incumbent Republican Carl “Robbie” Martin, of Buckhannon, received 2,651 votes, while Democrat challenger Matthew Kerner of Buckhannon totaled 622
District 64 Republican incumbent Adam Burkhammer, running unopposed, received 434 votes.
District 68 incumbent Chris Phillips, Republican, totaled 530 votes, while Republican challenger David Critchfield garnered 81.
Incumbent Upshur County Prosecuting Attorney Bryan S. Hinkle, a Republican from Buckhannon, running unopposed, totaled 3,418 votes.
Incumbent Upshur County Assessor Dustin “Dusty” Zickefoose, a Republican from Buckhannon, also running unopposed, garnered 3,778 votes.
In the District 11 State Senate race, Republican Robbie Morris totaled 2,773 votes, while incumbent Republican Robert Karnes totaled 1,319.
Incumbent Division 1 Magistrate Mark Davis received 3,013 votes, while challenger Kay Hurst totaled 2,342 votes.
Incumbent Division 2 Magistrate Alan M. Suder, running unopposed, garnered 4,701 votes.
In the Conservation District Supervisor race, Mateal Poling received 2,625 votes and Amber N., Stripling 1,872 votes.
