City of Elkins to remove snow from several streets at night
ELKINS — The Elkins City Street Department will be removing snow from Davis Avenue and Randolph Avenue on Sunday and Monday nights, closing the roads during the process, city officials said.
The Street Department will be removing snow from 1st Street to 6th Street on Davis Avenue Sunday night, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
On Monday night, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., snow will be removed from the Railroad Depot to Smoker Friendly on Randolph Avenue and 3rd Street.
Vehicles will not be allowed to park on the street during these hours. There will be “No Parking” signs along the curbs with times and dates of the removal of the snow, officials said.
Elkins City Operations Manager Michael Kesecker confirmed this Thursday night during the Elkins City Council’s first meeting of the year.
“We will be removing snow from the sidewalks and out of the lanes of traffic and hauling it out of here,” Kesecker said during Thursday’s meeting. “…We’ll be hauling all of that snow out of there and getting ready for the next snow… we are ready and the guys will continue to do a good job.”
Kesecker asked residents to exercise patience with the speed at which snow is being removed, explaining that the Street Department only has a crew of 10 workers.
“We will get to you,” Kesecker said. “We will continue to work hard to get the snow out of the way for you… if you move your car and get a hold of us and we’re in that area, we’ll come by and swipe it and get rid of it, but we can’t come on to your property and remove snow. Our priority is the streets, to make sure emergency vehicles can get to and fro so the citizens are safe.”
He also acknowledged the frustration some have shared with the Street Department’s pushing snow onto properties that were just shoveled. Kesecker admitted that he too has faced that problem where he lives, but it is the “nature of the beast.”
“We don’t do it on purpose, but there’s not a lot of places to put the snow,” Kesecker said.
Elkins Mayor Jerry Marco joined Kesecker in praising the Street Department, the Sanitation Department and others for their work so far this winter, thanking them for their dedication and teamwork.
