John Thayer, 89, a resident of Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center in Elkins, passed away Sunday evening, May 31, 2026, at the facility under the care of West Virginia Caring Hospice. He was born March 24, 1937, at Tioga, West Virginia, a son of the late William Getty Thayer and the late Masil Radcliff Thayer. He was twice married. First to Miyong Thayer, who preceded him in death, and later to Barbara Hilton Thayer, who survives in Elkins.
