Reader appalled by plan in Tucker

After learning Sunday, April 13, in Davis, of a misguided plan by a Virginia company known as “Fundamental Data,” I am appalled that its owner & CEO Casey Chapman would conceive that the proposed area near Davis and Thomas would be suitable for such a project. He obviously does NOT know of the water shortage residents lived through last summer. The top of a mountain is never a good place to build multiple data processing centers with power plants, each needing millions of gallons of water per day. In a speech last year, I recounted a story in which my husband and I were talking about democracy, and he said something that was so chilling to me that it had been on my mind for weeks. In reference to the letter from state Sen. Robbie Morris regarding the proposal to rename Spruce Knob: Perhaps Delegate Elias Coop-Gonzalez and his followers should do some research on the abandoned town of Spruce, in Pocahontas County, and recognize the sacrifices and hard work of the 300 residents who lived and worked there. There were no roads into Spruce, and the only access to the town was by rail. The West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company built a pulp mill that operated until 1925. The town boasted a hotel with 30 rooms, hot running water and, above all, electrical lighting. ...
