B-U sophomore sets new records in two events

MORGANTOWN — Buckhannon-Upshur sophomore Cadence Vincent shined at the state swim meet held Tuesday at Mylan Park Aquatic Center.

Vincent set state records in both the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.11 and in the 100 freestyle (50.39).

She repeated as champion in the 50 freestyle, winning the crown in a time of 23.69 last year.

Vincent was runner-up in the 100 freestyle during the 2020 state meet.

Vincent was also part of the second-place 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays, along with junior Cameron Zuliani, senior McKenzie Reynolds and sophomore Alayna Whitehair.

Zuliani also placed third in the 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 butterfly.

For the B-U boys, sophomore Preston Bennett was second in the 500 freestyle and third in the 200 freestyle to earn all-state honors.

The George Washington boys and girls repeated as state champions.
