No. 10 Pendleton pulls away from Lady Bulldogs

MILL CREEK — A late run in the first half ignited Class A, No. 10 Pendleton County to a 57-33 win over sectional foe Tygarts Valley Monday night at Weber-Wamsley Court.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed 15-7 after one quarter and 19-15 with 4 minutes left in the second quarter.

But the Lady Wildcats closed the frame on a 9-0 surge to lead by 13 at halftime.

“Our turnovers allowed them to push the lead to 13 (at halftime),” TV first-year coach Adam Smith. “We played good defense for quite a while.”

Pendleton County then held a 20-6 scoring edge in the third quarter to build a 48-21 advantage.

Ana Young, who had 53 points in the teams’ first meeting, tossed in 15 to lead the Lady Wildcats, who had nine players reach the scoring column.

Summer Lewis-Smith bucketed 10 points to pace Tygarts Valley, which is now 3-14 and will remain home at 6 p.m. today to battle Notre Dame.

Pendleton County (9-3) is also in action today at home against East Hardy for a PVC contest.
