‘Mr. Everything’

Bowers shines on offense, defense and special teams for Tigers

The Inter-Mountain photos by Joey Kittle Elkins High School’s Nick Bowers breaks into the open for a big gain during Friday night’s 28-7 win over Grafton at Tiger Stadium.

ELKINS — Nick Bowers is “Mr. Everything” for the Elkins High School football team.

That was evident in Friday night’s 28-7 victory over Grafton in front of the homecoming crowd assembled at Tiger Stadium.

It was the first win in front of a home crowd for an EHS football game since the Tigers defeated Buckhannon-Upshur in the 2019 season finale, which also was the final contest played at historic Wimer Field.

Friday’s victory also served as the Tigers’ initial win of the 2023 campaign.

Bowers’ effort consisted of scoring three rushing touchdowns, booting four extra-point attempts and being one of the top tacklers on defense from his safety position.

And for good measure, the junior rushed for a career-high 215 yards on 21 totes as Elkins controlled the game on the ground, with no pass attempts.

Bowers tops the squad in rushing and scoring and also went over 100 yards on the ground at Philip Barbour.

The Tigers will go to work a day early this week as North Marion visits Forest Festival City for a Thursday night contest at Tiger Stadium.

The Huskies suffered their first loss of the season to Fairmont Senior, 54-36, on Friday as the top-ranked team in the Class AA WVSSAC playoff ratings.

Games on tap for Friday night include Lewis County at Buckhannon-Upshur, Philip Barbour at East Fairmont, Tygarts Valley at Pendleton County and Tucker County at Moorefield.

Both the Colts and Mountain Lions remained undefeated on the this season with home wins.

Philip Barbour, third in Class AA, defeated Berkeley Springs, 56-14, and Tucker County cruised past Pendleton County, 54-8.

Starting at $3.92/week.
