Anger seeks to end record-breaking career with more state titles

MORGANTOWN — Isaac Anger’s record-breaking career in the pool for Elkins High School comes to a conclusion in the two-day state meet set to begin today at Mylan Park Aquatic Center.

Anger, the school record- holder in every individual event, looks to defend his state title in the 100 breaststroke and is the top seed. He’s also entered in the 50 freestyle, looking get over the hump after placing second in last year’s meet.

Anger will battle Bridgeport’s Owen Guthrie for the 50 freestyle title as the Big 10 Conference foes are seeded first and second, respectively, with times of 21.26 and 21.51.

Fellow senior Andres Masten is entered in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

Anger and Masten will join freshmen Jackson Shepherd and Joel Casto in the 200 medley relay and sophomore Briar Higgins and Casto in the the 200 freestyle

Casto is entered in both the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Junior Isaiah Starks will represent Philip Barbour in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.

Action gets underway at 9:45 a.m. today with the preliminaries in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle. The finals are set to begin at 4:45 p.m.

On Friday, the entries in the 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay take to the pool at 9:45 a.m. for the preliminaries and the finals are set to begin at 4:45 p.m.

Huntington is the defending state champion.
