Knights sink Tigers behind 3-point barrage

ELKINS — Preston drilled 15 treys and dominating second half to hand Elkins a 66-42 setback Thursday night in Big 10 Conference play at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

Aidan Schmidl had five treys in finishing with 27 points for the Knights, while Kash Jenkins with 15 points — all coming on 3-pointers over the final two frames.

Easton Hayes added 18.

Landon Shreve paced the Tigers with 23 points. Isaiah Nutter chipped in 10.

Elkins led 24-22 at halftime but was outscored 21-6 in the third quarter and 21-10 in the fourth.

The Tigers will honor their senior players today when Herbert Hoover visits for a 3 p.m. contest.

Elkins will be the fourth seed in next week’s Class AAA, Region II tournament, hosting No. 5 Lewis County at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The winner will travel to top-seed Bridgeport on March 10 for a berth in the state tourney.
