Colts cruise past Moorefield, 10-0

PHILIPPI — Fourth-seed Philip Barbour rode the pitching of Robbie Jones and a six-run outburst in the fifth inning to cruise past fifth-seed Moorefield, 10-0, Monday night in Class AA, Region II action.

The Colts (15-12) will now visit top-seed Frankfort this evening in a winner’s bracket contest. The Falcons blanked eighth-seed Braxton County, 11-0, on Monday.

Jones went all five innings in the contest which ended in the bottom of the fifth inning after Philip Barbour’s scoring outburst.

Parker Fincham and Landyn Carpenter laced two-run singles in the frame, while Kent Rowan added an RBI single and Kale Wolfe drew a bases-loaded walk.

Jones surrendered just three hits, struck out seven and walked one.

He got all the run support he would need when Anthony Mosesso singled home Wolfe in the first inning and Slaton Harris tallied a two-run single in the third to treat the Colts to a 3-0 advantage.

Carpenter’s RBI single in the fourth made it 4-0.

Carpenter, Mosesso and Rowan had two hits each for Philip Barbour.

Oliver Crites had a double for the Yellow Jackets and Trevor Baldwin and Blake Snyder added singles.

Matthew Iman was charged with the loss, allowing six runs on six hits, striking out five and walking four in four innings of work.

Moorefield will entertain Braxton County this evening in an elimination game.
