D&E’s Evans and Gray earn MEC postseason honors

BRIDGEPORT — Davis & Elkins College’s Vegas Evans and Matthew Gray have been honored by the Mountain East Conference. Evans, a 6-foot-7 forward, is a second-team selection on the all-conference squad, while Gray, a 6-7 junior forward, is listed as honorable mention. BRIDGEPORT — Concord’s Abbie Smith has been named the MEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, per a vote of the league’s head coaches. Smith, a senior from Little Hocking, Ohio, is averaging 18.8 points per game and leads the league in rebounds per game averaging 10.8 a contest. ELKINS — Elkins dropped a 56-50 verdict to Herbert Hoover Saturday at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium. The Tigers (4-16) close out the regular season this evening against East Fairmont. ELKINS — The Davis & Elkins College men’s basketball team celebrated its seniors in style Saturday afternoon, pulling away in the second half for a 105-90 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan inside the McDonnell Center.
