MORGANTOWN — When West Virginia baseball's regional was announced as the No. 16, and the rest of the teams were revealed, it might've seemed daunting. Especially when the No. 2 seed in the regional is Wake Forest, who is the highest No. 2 seed in the tournament. BRIDGEPORT — Fourth-seeded Elkins’ season came to a conclusion in a 7-2 setback to top-seed Bridgeport Monday afternoon in Class AAA, Region II action. The Tigers finished with a 13-16 record, while the Indians (30-4) advance to the state tournament. Owen Sondericker, who also smacked a three-run double at the plate, went the distance to earn the win, allowing no earned runs on three hits, striking out nine and walking just one. Tucker boys place sixth in Class A state meet

CHARLESTON — The Tucker County boys placed sixth in the Class A portion of the state meet completed Saturday at Laidley Field. The Mountain Lions tallied 46 points. Wahama took the boys title with 123.50 points. The 4x400-meter relay unit of Nate Ricottilli, Keeyln Eichelberger, Lucas Barb and Reid Kisamore placed second on Saturday in a time of 3:33.33. The same group placed eighth in the 4x200 relay (1:37.50). Ricottilli was also third in the 400 (51.86) and Kisamore fifth in the 100 (11.64). CHARLESTON — Trevor George saved his best race of the state meet weekend for last as he paced the Elkins High School boys in scoring with 28.5 points. George’s 800-meter time of 1:57.02 marked his fourth school record in four races and earned the two-time cross-country champion his first solo win on the track. The junior’s Saturday began with a second-place showing in the 1,600-meter run (4:17.78), showcasing Elkins’ depth at the middle-distance events.
