Mountaineers knock off Maryland, 10-3

MORGANTOWN — Paul Schoenfeld continued to make the jump to Division I baseball look rather easy Tuesday. To that same effect, West Virginia also made it look pretty easy in knocking off Maryland, 10-3, inside Kendrick Family Ballpark. Schoenfeld, an outfielder who transferred to WVU this season from Division II Colorado Mesa, went 3 for 5, including a run-scoring triple in the second inning. He’s now recorded a hit in every game but three for the Mountaineers (11-3) and will enter Big 12 play with a four-game hitting streak. Schoenfeld drove in two runs and added a stolen base ...

WVU begins Big 12 tourney play tonight

MORGANTOWN — When it comes to telling the story about the WVU men’s basketball team, Chance Moore’s mind quickly drifts back to last summer. “It was a crazy journey starting this summer,” the WVU forward said. “We were on that turf, and all of the practices and all of the hills we had to run. It was all meant for us to get better by 1% everyday. “For most of us, it was our first time playing high-major (basketball). I feel like we did solid for the most part.” As for WVU head coach Ross Hodge, his thoughts go back to a rivalry win against Pitt. “For as long as ...

Lady Mountaineers celebrate title win

As it turns out, Sydney Shaw had another reason to be motivated to help the 15th-ranked WVU women’s basketball team capture the Big 12 women’s tournament. It came from the other Big 12 coaches, who omitted Shaw’s name from the all-Big 12 team that was released prior to the start of the tournament. “Sydney Shaw was fantastic in this tournament,” said WVU head coach Mark Kellogg, who is not permitted to vote for his players for all-Big 12 honors. “She earned this right. It’s absolutely crazy to me that she didn’t make an all-conference team. “She led our league in ...
