Mountaineers shut out Liberty to win first game of series

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia continued its perfect sheet in the series opener against Liberty, pitching its first shutout of the season. The Mountaineers beat the Flames 12-0 in the first game of the three-game series, moving to 4-0 on the new season. Liberty falls to 2-2. WVSSAC approves girls wrestling for 2026-27 season

The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission Board of Directors voted on Tuesday night to approve girls wrestling as a preliminary sanctioned sport beginning with the 2026-27 school year. The decision establishes an official WVSSAC girls wrestling state championship supported by a regional qualifying format.
