Houston defense overwhelms Mountaineers

MORGANTOWN — Houston’s top-ranked defense in the Big 12 just may have set a new standard Tuesday. Unfortunately, it was West Virginia that became the latest victim. The seventh-ranked Cougars — the defending Big 12 champs and the national runner-up last season — put on a defensive clinic, holding the Mountaineers to just five points over the first 15 minutes of the game, on their way to a 77-48 victory inside the Fertitta Center. What did it look like? To the Mountaineers (11-6, 2-2 Big 12), it probably looked as if Houston was playing defense with six or seven guys on the ...

Tomlin steps down after 19 seasons as Steelers coach

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Mike Tomlin was an unknown when the Pittsburgh Steelers plucked him from obscurity in 2007 and handed the young and charismatic Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator one of the most stable jobs in sports. WVU women host No. 10 TCU tonight

MORGANTOWN — Maybe it was “senior-itis,” the term used by WVU women’s basketball coach Mark Kellogg in describing Mountaineers’ point guard Jordan Harrison. “She was a little up and down for us early,” Kellogg continued. “I’m not really sure what was going on, but she’s ...
