Rock Cave couple facing several charges

BUCKHANNON — A Rock Cave couple who was discovered passed out in a car in the Tractor Supply parking lot while a small child was in the vehicle with them has been arrested on multiple charges.

Ciera E. Jones, 25, was arrested for child neglect creating risk of injury, a felony, and possession of a controlled substance oxycodone, a misdemeanor. Codey Jones, 29, was arrested for child neglect creating risk of injury, a felony; possession of a controlled substance methamphetamine, a misdemeanor, and driving suspended third offense non-DUI, a misdemeanor from a separate traffic stop.

Cpl. Rodney Rolenson with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department wrote in the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s office that he responded on May 18 to Tractor Supply along with Upshur County EMS. Both Ciera and Codey Jones were unable to be awakened by employees at Tractor Supply and a small child who was not clothed was observed in the back seat of the vehicle. Rolenson and Upshur County EMS were able to wake the driver and passenger up. A syringe containing suspected methamphetamine was found on the dash in front of Codey Jones, the driver, and a small change purse was found in the rear seat area with the child containing one oxycodone pill.

Ciera Jones allegedly admitted that the purse belonged to her and she used the pills but did not have a prescription. Rolenson stated he found used needles throughout the passenger compartment of the vehicle within reach of the child.

On May 25, Buckhannon Police Department Patrolman Sam Kraemer made a traffic stop on a 2005 GMC Envoy for defective equipment on Route 33. Kraemer was informed by Codey Jones, the driver, that he did not have a valid driver’s license. A records search found that his license had been suspended with two prior convictions of driving while license suspended on Feb. 8, 2015 and Oct. 13, 2015.

Magistrate Mike Coffman set bond at $75,000.

Child neglect creating risk of injury carries confinement in the state penitentiary for not less than one nor more than five years and/or fined $1,000 to $3,000. Possession of controlled substance carries confinement in jail for 90 days to six months and/or up to a $1,000 fine. The penalty for
